“Everyone has been really welcoming, and I’m really loving classes. I had wanted to do classes for years but had some anxiety about being in a group setting as a beginner. So far I have felt really comfortable, and I’m thankful for the lovely space you have created!”

Take the first step.

You are welcome to schedule a free 15-minute tour and consultation, to help you decide which classes are best for you, given your goals.

Some students (new or returning) would like individualized support to increase their comfort and confidence in group classes, or to create a home practice. Private, partner, and small group yoga sessions are available. (New Bluestem students are eligible for a discounted package of 3 private sessions.)

For more info, please email Sandy.

Some classes that are good for beginners:

  • Gentle/Curvy Yoga

  • Sunday Reset and Restore

  • Saturday Morning Hatha Yoga

  • Yin Yoga

  • Rise and Shine Yoga

  • Ageless Yoga

Check out our special events, too, like Meditation and Sound Bath!

Note: Group classes require students to sit and lie on the floor. Ageless Yoga offers many props for extra support. Private “chair yoga” sessions may be available. Please discuss mobility issues with the studio.

 FAQs for Beginners

Safety.
Body Awareness.
Special Conditions.

  • If you have a health condition or injury, get approval from your health care provider before taking a class.

  • If you are pregnant, get approval from your health care provider before taking a class, and let your teacher know. Many poses need to be modified during pregnancy.

  • The teacher’s cues are invitations, not requirements. You are the one who knows your body, your history, your reasons for coming to yoga. Listen to your body; respect its limitations.

  • Practicing yoga should not hurt. If you feel pain, back off, choose a different pose or movement, or rest. If you’re unsure about the difference between “sensation” and pain, back off in the moment, and talk to your teacher or your health care provider after.

  • Poses look different on different people. Take the shape that gives your body the sensation you’re looking for. There’s no reason to compare yourself to others.

  • Poses look and feel different on different days. Honor how you feel on any given day. Some days you might want to challenge yourself; some days you might want to take it easy. It’s your practice; you get to be in charge of you! :-)

  • Repeat: resting is always an option!
