Not sure you're ready for a group yoga class?
The First Step Package is three individual sessions with Bluestem's owner, designed entirely around you. You'll learn the basics, get personalized feedback, and arrive at your first Bluestem class already feeling at home.
Sessions are available for small groups, too — a fun way to start your yoga journey with friends!

“Everyone has been really welcoming, and I’m really loving classes. I had wanted to do classes for years but had some anxiety about being in a group setting as a beginner. So far I have felt really comfortable, and I’m thankful for the lovely space you have created!”

— Casey

Take the first step.

You are welcome to schedule a free 15-minute tour and consultation, to help you decide which classes are best for you, given your goals.

Some students (new or returning) would like individualized support to increase their comfort and confidence in group classes, or to create a home practice. Private, partner, and small group yoga sessions are available. We offer packages of one-on-one yoga sessions!

For more info, please email Sandy.

Some classes that are good for beginners:

  • Gentle/Curvy Yoga

  • Yin Yoga

  • Reset and Restore

  • Hatha Yoga (especially Thurs, Fri, Sat)

Check out our special events, too, like Meditation and Sound Bath!

Note: Most group classes require students to sit and lie on the floor. Ageless, Yin, and Curvy Yoga offer many props for extra support. With notice, Curvy Yoga and Thursday Gentle Yoga can accommodate students sitting in a folding chair. Private chair yoga sessions are also available. Please discuss mobility issues with the studio.

You are welcome here.

 FAQs for Beginners

Safety.
Body Awareness.
Special Conditions.

  • If you have a health condition or injury, get approval from your health care provider before taking a class.

  • If you are pregnant, get approval from your health care provider before taking a class, and let your teacher know. Many poses need to be modified during pregnancy.

  • The teacher’s cues are invitations, not requirements. You are the one who knows your body, your history, your reasons for coming to yoga. Listen to your body; respect its limitations.

  • Practicing yoga should not hurt. If you feel pain, back off, choose a different pose or movement, or rest. If you’re unsure about the difference between “sensation” and pain, back off in the moment, and talk to your teacher or your health care provider after.

  • Poses look different on different people. Take the shape that gives your body the sensation you’re looking for. There’s no reason to compare yourself to others.

  • Poses look and feel different on different days. Honor how you feel on any given day. Some days you might want to challenge yourself; some days you might want to take it easy. It’s your practice; you get to be in charge of you! :-)

  • Repeat: resting is always an option!
